If you’re new to the world of SMS Marketing, there is no surprise that you probably have a million questions running through your mind. As the leading provider of SMS Marketing in Australia, we know a thing or two when it comes to creating a successful campaign.

Our Chatti Experts speak to customers on the line each & every day, so they are well versed when it comes to answering the questions everybody is wondering.

We’ve collected our most commonly asked questions (& our answers) so you can reference them whenever you may be needing a refresher.

1. How do I grow my subscriber list?

SMS Marketing is excellent on its own, however, it thrives when combined with other marketing activities. The easiest way to grow your subscriber list is by taking advantage of your followers on other channels, such as social media and email. Using this method has never been easier and is one of the fastest ways to grow your subscriber list.

Need a little inspo? We’ve popped some of our favourite methods below:

Desktop

Your website is the main point of call for people who are interested in buying your products or engaging with your services. Using full screen sign up units are the best way to capture your customers attention, especially when they’re perfectly timed to appear at the most opportune time.

Hint: Time your pop-ups to appear when your customer first lands on the page, when they’re about to leave or when they’re going through the checkout process.

Social Media

Your social media following are already interested in what you have to offer so take advantage of that! This can be done by simply placing a click through link on your Instagram stories to the signup form of your website or sharing your opt-in number in your captions. Don’t forget, your followers won’t be inclined to join your subscriber list unless they know what’s in it for them! Motivate your followers by listing out all the benefits (exclusive sales, real-time tracking updates & VIP offers etc) & reward them for subscribing with a sneaky discount.

Brick & Mortar

Growing your subscriber list doesn’t have to always be done solely online. Brick & mortar businesses can take advantage of customers in-store by placing signage in areas where customers spend the most amount of time in-store. This could be at the registers, in the change room or in your front windows. Include an opt-in QR code & a unique discount code to make the process easy & rewarding for customers!

SMS Marketing FAQ

2. What types of text messages can I send?

In order to identify the type of text message you should be sending, it’s important to refine your goals & objectives. The two most common types of text messages we send here at Chatti are SMS Marketing campaigns & automated SMS notifications.

Are you running a sale for the long weekend? Or perhaps launching a new product and you want your customers to have access to the presale? Campaign messages are perfect for scenarios like this when you have time sensitive information. Making your customers feel like VIPs can make a world of difference when it comes to customer loyalty.

If you’re looking to keep your customers informed about details such as the status of their order or their upcoming appointment, dive into automated SMS notifications instead, allowing you to target your customers at critical touch points throughout their journey. Find out more about transactional SMS and SMS notifications via last month’s blog here https://chatti.com/blog/how-conversational-sms-marketing-drives-sale/.

3. What should be included in text messages?

Anybody can send a text message but if the content isn’t valuable then customers won’t know what to do, or even worse, they’ll unsubscribe. Text messages are limited to 160 characters (you can go over this of course, but the cost per message is based off of 160 characters) & your customers have a limited attention span so we always recommend being short, sweet and sharp!

Firstly, make sure you have a reason for sending your message! Whether it’s updating your customers about a restocked item or letting them know you’re having a flash sale, your reasoning needs to be clear. There’s no secret formula for creating the perfect message but being creative helps to capture the attention of your audience – don’t be afraid to use emojis or capitalise on important words!

The most important thing to remember is to always include a CTA! Without doing so, your customers won’t be sure about what the next step is. Creating a sense of urgency to prompt your customers to make some sort of action.

4. Can I combine SMS with other marketing activities?

As we mentioned earlier, SMS thrives when combined with your other marketing activities, especially email marketing! These two channels perfectly complement one another, often producing the best results when used together. SMS can be used to promote your EDM’s & vice versa. A multi-channel approach to your marketing ensures you will have the best chance at reaching & engaging with your audience!

5. What is the best time to send an SMS?

There isn’t one singular time that is ‘perfect’ to send your customers a text message. If the information you’re sending is time sensitive, then the time you send your messages will be entirely unique. However, market research has shown that click through rates are higher on weekends rather than weekdays –  aka when everybody is away from their desk.

Remember to send messages in your customers local time zone & between the hours of 8am – 8pm so you don’t risk disturbing them. Our SMS gateway provides the ability to connect with local numbers across 225 countries, plus, our worldwide compliance features and local knowledge provide peace of mind at all times. Finding the right time for your campaign can take trial and error but with our comprehensive analytics & powerful reporting tools, you will be able to track when your text messages are most successful.
