What actually changed

The rules on branded SMS changed on 1 July 2026

The ACMA SMS Sender ID Register is part of the Government’s Fighting Scams initiative. Here’s what it means for your messages, in plain terms.

A new national register

Alphanumeric sender IDs, the brand name at the top of a text like ASTON or SUNSHINE, must now be registered with the ACMA to display as your business name.

“Unverified” is live

From 1 July, any unregistered alphanumeric sender ID is over-stamped as “Unverified” on recipients’ devices, and some carriers may filter or block it entirely.

Long codes are exempt

Standard mobile long numbers and short codes aren’t affected. This is only about branded, alphanumeric sender IDs. Not sure which you use? We’ll check for you.

It’s not too late

1 July was the start of enforcement, not a cut-off. You can still register, and every hour showing as “Unverified” costs open rates and trust. Speed matters now.

    Common questions

    Sender ID registration, answered

Does this apply to my messages?
If you send SMS to Australian mobiles with a branded name at the top, an alphanumeric sender ID like MYGYM or CITYCAVE, then yes. If you only send from a standard long number or short code, the register doesn’t apply. In a consult we’ll confirm exactly what you send from.
What happens if I don’t register?
From 1 July 2026, carriers replace your unregistered sender name with “Unverified” on the recipient’s device, and some may filter or block the message. Your messages still send, but your brand recognition, open rates and customer trust take an immediate hit.
Is it too late to register now?
No. 1 July was the start of enforcement, not a deadline to register by. You can register at any time, and once approved your business name displays again. The sooner you submit, the sooner “Unverified” disappears, which is why our fast-track exists.
I don’t have an Australian ABN. Can I still register?
Yes. There are separate paths for ABN holders and for non-ABN / international entities, plus an Entity Associate path for partners and wholesalers sending on another brand’s behalf. As a certified Australian carrier we handle all three and advise on the right one for you.
    How fast is Chatti’s submission?
Because we’re integrated directly with the ACMA system rather than filling in forms, we submit your Brand and sender IDs near-instantly. Final approval involves your authorised representative confirming via ACMA Assist. We guide you through that step so it doesn’t stall.
Do I have to switch providers to use Chatti for registration?
Book a free consult and we’ll advise on the best route for your situation. If you move your SMS to Chatti and qualify, you could earn an additional 100,000 Qantas Points on top of the 25,000 standard bonus, plus our price-beat guarantee.
